Student to … ‘Execute the same passage from ‘Leslie Head’ to enter ‘Rozelle Cove Marina’. However, during this passage the visibility will markedly deteriorate. As visibility reduces you will need to use the radar skills developed in Exercise 1 to complete the passage safely.’
20 minutes
Completed Exercise 1 and demonstrated an ability to set up the radar correctly and adjust the radar on passage alternating between the available view options – window, radar display and plotter.

Can set up the radar correctly and then navigate safely in restricted visibility utilising the radar in an appropriate way for the passage.
Can identify the targets visible on the radar to determine what they relate to when viewing the chart.
Note: Other vessels will transit the area however it is NOT expected for this exercise that the student will apply Rule 19
Leg 1
Student to begin by setting up the radar appropriately for the passage. Then proceed on the passage.
Leg 2
Student to navigate towards entrance to Rozelle Cove at an appropriate speed. Student to take opportunity to alternate between radar, plotter and visual and to make adjustments as per above.
They will need to be aware of other vessels but are not expected to react to those vessels in this exercise.
Leg 3
Navigate towards Rozelle Cove Marina along the narrow channel alternating between the available views.
As the session operates in restricted visibility it is important that the student adopts a ‘safe speed’ relative to the conditions and this should be monitored by instructors.
