In your browser enter the address for the simulator:
The login screen should load instantly. Hover over ‘Login’ in the top right-hand corner - select which sort of session you want:
- ‘Anon’ - choose this option where the course has been set up to have stations just with a student identifier - eg ‘Student 1, 2’ etc or ‘Instructor’.
- ‘WithEmail’ - this is where the course has been scheduled with the Student’s own email address or where the Instructor is logging on using their own or their centre’s ‘simulator hours’.
‘Anon’
This will be the default setting for schools running RYA Radar Courses. The basic principle will be:
- The school buys course credits
- They go to their admin portal to schedule a course and allocate places to the course.
The admin portal is here: Admin portal (Note: To access this the school will need to be set up and access is for admin level users)
To be able to access the simulator for the course the student will need:
- The course code - these are in the format ‘DR5T6’ and are allocated automatically to the course
- The course password - this is set up when you schedule the course. We recommend something simple like ‘abctraining2025’
Both of these are found in the in the admin portal for the course you are running.
We suggest that the school keeps a record of the Student name versus the Station number for each course as in the future we may be able to output an activity record for each station for the school’s reference.
‘WithEmail‘
You would choose this option in these cases:
- The Instructor is logging on and rather than wishing to allocate a ‘Course session/credit’ to allow them to access they are going to use simulator hours allocated to the email address they are logging in with. This email address could be their own or a school address that has simulator hours purchased and allocated to it.
- You wish to set up the student on the system. This is popular if they subsequently wish to purchase (or you allocate to them) simulator hours for additional practice post course.
Enter the email address. If an account already exists enter the password and enter. The email address will be sent an access code to generate the session. For a new account, or where you have forgotten the password, enter the password then reset password. Follow the rest password process.
If a security pop-up appears press ‘Send anyway’.
Enter the access code that you received via email. This is invariably instant so check junk before requesting a resend. If it doesn’t arrive immediately then leave it a minute or two then request another access code.
Once the access code is entered and pop-up okayed then the screen will state that the simulator session is loading. THIS WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 60 SECONDS.
You will then be presented with a ‘Click to start’ screen. Click start. This is followed by a large start button. Press this and you will enter the simulator.
DO NOT leave the simulator sitting waiting for you to select these button else the simulator will reject the logon and the session will need to be reset.
You will see a grey screen and there will be a ‘RYA Radar Course’ tile. Select this tile.
(Other tiles will appear if you have access to location specific training ‘worlds’).
The RYA Radar Course page will then appear showing the list of exercises available to the student.
On the course screen you have various options:
- Select one of the nine exercises. When you select an exercise when you select you will jump to the vessel view at the start position for the exercise.
- If you select ‘Explore Map’ this will take you straight to the vessel view. From this screen you can operate the vessel and adjust settings to create bespoke exercises. You can ‘Teleport’ to various locations around the ‘RYA Training Chart 4 world’.
- The exit sign at the top right hand side of the screen exits the RYA module.
- At the bottom left hand side of the screen is a signal strength meter. This displays the strength of connection to the server which is a mixture of signal strength and server connectivity. Green = good, Amber = okay and Red indicates the simulator is struggling for connectivity.
The control screen
Press ‘Esc’ to bring up this pop up.
The control screen gives you access to various features:
- ‘Teleport’ your vessel to various locations in the RYA TC4 world.
- Selecting ‘Weather’; allows you to adjust visibility down to zero. In exercises the visibility is programmed to set itself according to the demands of the exercise and will overwrite any changes you make to this setting here.
- Selecting ‘Tide’ allows you to vary tidal height. Adjusting tide is only visible where sandbanks appear or near marinas, quay walls or beaches. The radar return will alter accordingly in these areas.
- Selecting ‘Boat’ allows you to choose between different types of vessel. (NOTE: Early releases of the simulator are limited to the RIB option).
To end the exercise select this option then the green exit sign then shut the browser.
IMPORTANT: When finished always end your session cleanly through this control panel else the simulator will think your session is still running and i) use time credit and ii) not allow you back in as it thinks you are still logged on.
There are four screens available in the simulator:
Screen 1 - Controls (Press ‘C’ to enter and exit this screen.)
Screen 2 - Vessel view

Screen 3 - Radar view (Press ‘R’ to enter and exit this screen.)
Screen 4 - Plotter (Press ‘P’ to enter and exit this screen.)
