Useful resources - Tips - Where am I (Exercise 5)?
Exercise 5 - Position Monitoring stops at two points for the students to position fix and enter their latitude/longitude in order to progress the exercise. The exercise will stop in roughly the same area for all students however as the route each student takes is unique then the actual position will vary student to student. To progress the student needs to get the position correct to within approximately 200m. This can cause problems if the student is making errors as sometimes it may be better to accept what they have done as a means to facilitate the exercise moving on. As the instructor you can work with the student to ensure their position fixing methods work however if you need the latitude and longitude of the boat select ‘Shift + G’ and the lat/long will appear in the bottom right hand side of the screen.
What is my position?
